Factors like continuous new customer requirements and the internationalism of machine and plant building require a comprehensive knowledge of individual markets and trends in order to be successful in this business. Additional challenges result from the strong growth of large emerging markets like China or India, which do not only result in a rising demand but also entail competition for the established machine and plant manufacturers.

In a recent survey of VDMA (German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association) the following essential measures for improving competitiveness are mentioned:

• What are the perspectives of my new machine concept?? 
• What do Chinese customers require? Or, how should my product portfolio and my distribution system respond to these needs? 
• How satisfied is my customer with my offer? Which specific solutions does he need? 
• What is my position against competition...or which market performance shows a possible takeover target? 
• What are possibilities in the procurement market?
